A Battling Mind

Have you ever fought with yourself in your own mind?  Maybe you weren't battling yourself at all.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. (1 Peter 5:7-9 NIV)

I've said it before and I will say it again.  People are not our enemies.  The enemy is our enemy.  The devil, a fallen angel, seeks to devour us like a roaring lion.  His followers, other fallen angels, seek to destroy us as well.  I'm not saying these things to frighten you.  I'm saying them so you will fight the right battles.  Don't fight against yourself.  Don't fight against that other person.  Fight the enemy.  You have all the tools you need provided by God.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NIV)

Fighting the enemy is as easy as aligning yourself with God.  Know where God stands and stand with God.  Then, you will win the battle.  God gives us the power to demolish every argument against God.  You are able to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.  When you do, you experience victory.  You experience exhilaration.  You experience peace.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:7-8 NIV)

Don't be double-minded.  Make your mind singly focused on God's Will.  Align your will with God's.  When a thought comes in your mind that tries to pull you away, throw it away.  When negative thought after thought after thought comes into your mind, send the source away.  Resist the enemy.  Tell him to get out.  He will flee from you.  God's got your back.  Draw near to God.  That's the place of peace.

How about you?  Do you argue with yourself in your mind?  Do you fight with other people in your mind?  Do you fight the enemy in your mind and win?
