Being sober doesn't guarantee a peaceful mind. It sets the stage for it. Being sober doesn't mean you will never fight in your mind. It helps you win the battles, though. Victory comes from standing firm with God in your mind. Peace comes from drawing near to God in your mind. When you are sober, you can make purposeful, wise choices. It is all possible when you have a sober mind.
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. (1 Thessalonians 5:7-8 NIV)
God loves us. God saves us. We can draw strength from this. We can enjoy life because of this. We can win battles protected by this. This is God. God is our Savior. God is our protector. God is our friend. We remember this, rest in this, and win battles with this in a sober mind.
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 NIV)
We can walk together with God in this life. We can be sure of a life together with God in the next life. Through Jesus, and His Spirit, we can enjoy the life God desired for us from the beginning of time.
Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV)
How about you? Do you have a light-filled mind? Do you draw near to God in your mind? Do you enjoy walking together with God? Do you look forward to walking together with God later?
