Learn

You've heard the phrase, "I learn something new every day."  I've found this to be true in my life, especially when I am purposeful about it.  What would happen if we all learned something new about God every day?  How would our relationship with God change, then.  How would our relationship with people change?

Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. (Luke 2:52 NLT)

Jesus grew in wisdom, but how?  We don't really have much information from his childhood.  We know the story of his birth and, of course, the time he was left behind in the Temple.  Other than that, though, we don't have any information until he begins his ministry at age 30.  What helped Jesus grow in wisdom?

These are the proverbs of Solomon, David's son, king of Israel. Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. (Proverbs 1:1-3 NLT)

When we look at the life of Jesus, we can see evidence that he knew his Bible.  The Bible in Jesus' day was what we call the Old Testament today.  The New Testament wasn't written yet.  Jesus, and eventually his disciples, still needed to live out that part of biblical history.  When he was living it out, though, Jesus would quote Scriptures, allude to Scriptures, discuss the interpretations of Scriptures, and even purposefully fulfill prophecies in the Scriptures.  Jesus knew the Scriptures.

How about you?  Do you know the Scriptures, too?  Do you spend time in the Bible so you, too, will grow in wisdom?  Do you let God speak to you through His Word?  Do you learn something new about God every day?
