On the day of Pentecost, when the Apostles were given Spirit Gifts to speak in different languages (tongues), they immediately used that God-given ability to preach the good news of the Gospel. They shared with the visitors from out of town that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God.
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah." When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:36-39 NIV)
Three thousand people were added to God's Church that day. The book of Acts documents the growth of the Church throughout those early years. God's Spirit was living and active. God's Spirit was working in God's people. God's Spirit was working through God's people to accomplish God's mission.
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20 NIV)
So how about you? Are you letting God work in you? Are you letting God work through you? Are your Spirit Gifts helping make disciples of all nations? Are you using God's Gifts for God's reasons?
