Truth

Truth may not be what you think it is.  Truth is not every thought that comes into your mind.  Saying things that are illegal, immoral, or just plain wrong because "I have to tell you the truth" does not match God's definition of truth.

Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4 NIV)

Words from God are truth.  God's instruction is truth.  God's perspective is truth.

"Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. (Proverbs 30:5-6 NIV)

The question, then, becomes this: "Does the thought in my mind match God's truth or not?"  I'll say it a different way: "Is this thought from God or not?"  When we recognize thought that are from God and only let those out of our mouth in words, we are speaking truth.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4 NIV)

God recognized that we have "bad boxes" (thoughts) that come into our minds.  God recognizes that we have thoughts that are not pure, perfect, holy, or true.  That's why God sent His Son, reconciling us to Himself after we didn't listen to His truth.  That's why God sent His Spirit, to lead us into and strengthen our resolve in God's truth.  When we follow God's truth, in our words and deeds, we are worshiping God in truth.

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24 NIV)

How about you?  Do you recognize when your thoughts are true?  Do you speak the truth?  Do you act on the truth?  Do you worship God in Spirit and truth?
