Today we are scheduled to attend a visitation. My sister-in-law's dad was crossing the street last week, was hit by a car, and died. Tomorrow we expect to attend his funeral mass and then travel to Alexandria, Kentucky for another funeral. Traci's uncle passed away with an unexpected massive heart attack. Both of these events serve as reminders that life is temporary and precious.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. (Hebrews 3:13-14 NIV)
A couple weeks ago we spent the week in a hospital here in Cincinnati. Traci's mom was fighting kidney failure. This week, I left a friend in a Porter County, Indiana hospital. They had found 99% blockage in his "widow-maker" artery and took him in for an immediate triple bypass. He is recovering well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34 NIV)
I guess I'm writing today as a reminder to us all of the importance of today. Today is the only day we know we have. Right now is the only moment we can live. With all the discussion this week about progress, it's good to remember that progress happens one day at a time - one moment at a time. Ministry happens in the now.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
