David now built several buildings for himself in the City of David. He also prepared a place for the Ark of God and set up a special tent for it. Then he commanded, "No one except the Levites may carry the Ark of God. The LORD has chosen them to carry the Ark of the LORD and to serve Him forever." Then David summoned all Israel to Jerusalem to bring the Ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it. (1 Chronicles 15:1-3 NLT)
David didn't just stay angry at himself like I discussed in a previous post. Instead, he learned from his mistake. His mistake was costly - a man lost his life. But David took the time to learn what he had done wrong so it wouldn't happen again. Then, he applied what he learned. He truly learned from his mistakes.
He said to them, "You are the leaders of the Levite families. You must purify yourselves and all your fellow Levites, so you can bring the Ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it. Because you Levites did not carry the Ark the first time, the anger of the LORD our God burst out against us. We failed to ask God how to move it properly." (1 Chronicles 15:12-13 NLT)
Have you ever failed to ask God how to do something properly? Did you fail to ask Him about a major purchase, a place to work, or a place to live? Did you ask Him about your potential spouse before you started living as man and wife? Do you forge ahead with what you want to do, or do you ask God first. David learned to ask God first. It made all the difference in the world.
Then David and the elders of Israel and the generals of the army went to the house of Obed-edom to bring the Ark of the LORD's Covenant up to Jerusalem with a great celebration. (1 Chronicles 15:25 NLT)
David learned from his mistakes, applied what he learned, asked God first, and then celebrated God's blessings. Are you ready to celebrate God's blessings?
