Meanwhile, David stationed Zadok the priest and his fellow priests at the Tabernacle of the LORD at the place of worship in Gibeon, where they continued to minister before the LORD. (1 Chronicles 16:39 NLT)
It's easy to get excited about God during big "God events" like christian concerts, retreats, or even weekend worship services. Walking with God, however, is all about what happens the next day...and the next...and the next. David understood that. The Ark of the Covenant was returned to the City of David. The celebration was coming to an end. Now they needed to be prepared for day two. David stationed priests to minister before the LORD every day.
They sacrificed the regular burnt offerings to the LORD each morning and evening on the altar set aside for that purpose, obeying everything written in the Law of the LORD, as He had commanded Israel. (1 Chronicles 16:40 NLT)
The priests offered sacrifices of burnt animal flesh on the altar of the LORD. They did this every day. Today, we are his royal priesthood. We don't sacrifice animal sacrifices each day. We put to death the deeds of the flesh by turning away from the things we do wrong and turning back to God. This is our daily ministry before Him.
David also appointed Heman, Jeduthun, and the others chosen by name to give thanks to the LORD, for "His faithful love endures forever." They used their trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments to accompany their songs of praise to God. And the sons of Jeduthun were appointed as gatekeepers. (1 Chronicles 16:41-42 NLT)
In addition to people who would repent daily, David assigned people to sing God's praises as well. Today, we should be singing God's praises daily as well. Repenting of our sin reminds us of God's grace. Singing His Praises reminds others of His grace. God wants to work in us and through us every day. These are simple ways we can allow Him to do that.
Once David had these daily reminders put in place, Israel was ready to go on with their daily lives.
Then all the people returned to their homes, and David turned and went home to bless his own family. (1 Chronicles 16:43 NLT)
How about you? Are you ready to walk with God each day?
Will you allow God to work in you and through you today?
