Worship the LORD.

So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was peaceful because Athaliah had been killed at the king's palace. (2 Kings 11:20 NLT)

Athaliah, the queen mother of Judah (the south) has now been removed from power.  Her seven year old son has now been established as king.  The first order of business?  They worshipped the LORD.

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people that they would be the LORD's people. He also made a covenant between the king and the people. And all the people of the land went over to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They demolished the altars and smashed the idols to pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altars. Jehoiada the priest stationed guards at the Temple of the LORD. (2 Kings 11:17-18 NLT)

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I think about what I will do if some big event happens.  My dad and I would talk about what we were going to do when he won the lottery.  I thought about what it would be like to be married even before I met Traci.  We would dream about what life would be like with children even before we had them.  I think it’s natural to think about these big, life changing events ahead of time.  When they happen, though, what do we do first?  The people of Judah worshipped the LORD.

Joash was seven years old when he became king. All his life Joash did what was pleasing in the LORD's sight because Jehoiada the priest instructed him. (2 Kings 11:21, 12:2 NLT)

How about you?  Do you imagine what you would do if a big life-changing event happened?  When they happen, what is your first reaction?  Do you worship the LORD?
