Another Reason to Thank God

When Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, he gave us yet another reason to thank God, too.  You see, his resurrection confirmed God’s reason for his death.  Jesus died like a criminal, but he was not a criminal.  He died like one who had rebelled against God, but he never rebelled against God.  Jesus’ death was different from any other death.  Jesus’ part was different from any other part of God’s plan.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV)

When Jesus died, though, we weren’t exactly thanking God.  That’s because all those closest to Jesus saw him die.  They thought that their friend, their teacher, their Messiah and King, was dead…and he was.  When he rose from the dead, though, they would learn the reason for his death.

And He said, "Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day. It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of His name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.' (Luke 24:46-47 NLT)

Jesus arose from the dead, explained the reason for his death, and gave us another reason to thank God.

How about you?  Do you see the reason for Jesus’ death?  Does his resurrection and explanation help you see more of God’s plan?  Does it give you another reason to thank God?
