A Transparent Mind

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.  (Romans 12:2 NIV)

I've often said to people, "You don't want to know what goes on in my mind.  It's a scary place."  Well, today I'm going to start taking you to that scary place.

I have a picture of what it must look like in my mind.  I picture it like a warehouse processing facility.  Conveyor belts are humming and running all of the time.  Boxes are processed - sometimes automatically and other times by someone who moves them around.  They get stored away, thrown away, and often times they get put in "holding" or "staging" areas until further processing can take place.  Sometimes the processing facility is working great - humming along just like it was designed to do.  Other times there are back-ups, pile-ups, and shutdowns.  Overall, it's a busy place that is always working - even through the night shift.

Often times we get hung up on what God says because we don't really understand how things are supposed to work in our minds.  We need to look at the "schematics" to understand how the whole picture was designed to work.  Then, we need to "take apart" our own minds to see how things are working inside.  When we look at how things are working and compare them to how they are supposed to work, we know what "maintenance" needs to be done   When we do, we can begin to work on "renewing our minds" - getting the process back to peak efficiency.

The picture I have in this blog post helps me understand the "schematics" God has put in place.  In future posts, I will start "taking apart" this picture to better understand how things are designed to work.  At the same time, I will be transparent about way(s) my own mind has deviated from the original design and the maintenance work I've done to restore it back to peak efficiency.  My hope is that you will be able to start to compare your own mind to His Design and begin doing maintenance work needed to "renew" your mind, too!  "Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is..."  As you progress, you will find yourself more and more Transparent and Unashamed.  It's a process well worth our time.
