David assigned the following men to lead the music at the house of the LORD after the Ark was placed there. (1 Chronicles 6:31 NLT)
There's great power in music, isn't there? Ever since before I was born, music has been an integral part of my life-experience. My mom taught dancing - a career choice my daughter hopes to continue. My dad sang in Barbershop Quartets and a Chorus. My older sister and brother both played guitar and sang. My brother still enjoys playing his guitar to this day. He once told me that when he played and sang, that was the most spiritual he ever felt. I can tell why. He really is that gifted by God.
Had my brother lived in the Old Testament days, my guess is that God would have placed him in a special part of the Tribe of Levi. He wouldn't be a descendent of Aaron. They were stuck serving as priests. No, he would have been in another Levite group: They ministered with music at the Tabernacle until Solomon built the Temple of the LORD in Jerusalem. They carried out their work, following all the regulations handed down to them. (1 Chronicles 6:32 NLT)
Can you imagine having a "regulation" handed down to you that required you to play music all the time for your job? You don't have to worry about marketing yourself to become famous. You don't need to try to compete with all the other musicians out there to make a living. You don't need to get a second or third job to make ends meet and simply do music as a "hobby." No, your job - your full-time job - would be to play music using the gifts you've been given. Enjoy playing your music. My brother would have loved that job!
Sometimes I think we loose site of the way we're wired. We get so caught up in "making a living" that we forget that God promises to provide for our needs. We simply need to walk with Him and work using the gifts He's given us. It will all work in the end. Enjoy using your gifts for God. He will take care of the rest.
Not a musician? Not a problem. Their fellow Levites were appointed to various other tasks in the Tabernacle, the house of God. (1 Chronicles 6:48 NLT)
Enjoy using your gifts for God.
He will take care of the rest.
