We need to be His witnesses.

Elijah is now living with a widow and her son.  God is providing them food to eat and water to drink each day.  This is a blessing because there is a drought in the land that is lasting for three years.

Some time later the woman's son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally he died. Then she said to Elijah, "O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?" (1 Kings 17:17-18 NLT)

At this time, Elijah takes the woman’s son, carries his body upstairs, and begins to pray.  After praying over the boy three times, the LORD brings the boy back to life.

Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. "Look!" he said. "Your son is alive!" Then the woman told Elijah, "Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the LORD truly speaks through you." (1 Kings 17:23-24 NLT)

Elijah is in the top-two list of famous prophets for the Israelite nation.  When Jesus was transfigured on the mountain, Moses appeared on one side of him and Elijah appeared on the other.  The LORD did not give Elijah (or Moses for that matter) the powers we read about so that they could become famous, though.  God gave them the powers so they would point all of us to the power, the goodness, and the love of the One True God.  Elijah did this and the widow finally believed.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8 HCSB)

We are offered and given the same power that dwelled in Moses and Elijah.  When we come home to the Father through the Son (Jesus), we receive the Holy Spirit.  This power is not given to us so we will become famous.  It is not given to us so we can have fun being powerful.  It is given to us so we will be HIs witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

How about you?  Have you come home to the Father through the Son and received the Holy Spirit?  Are you a witness to the power, the goodness, and the love of God?  Do you share this with others?  Are you God’s witness?
