Walking with God

It’s been a good series so far, learning about the Path of Life and some of the milestones we see along the way of our walk together with God.  In the last couple weeks, we got to explore the way that God provides for us to come back to Him even if we have been very, very far away.  Jesus is the way.  We come home to the Father through the Son.  When we do, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  Last week, we explored some of the many powerful images of what happens at our baptism.  Everything changes.  When we finished the week, we looked at this passage of scripture.

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:2-4 NIV)

I told everyone yesterday to underline, circle, or highlight that section that I made bold and italic above.  I wanted us all to get what Peter is saying here.  We get to participate in heavenly things, even while we are here on earth.  This place where we live is not our home.  Our real home is prepared for us in heaven.  We are seated in the heavenly realms with God.  We are in this world, but not of this world.  This is why God gives us the tools necessary to live in this world differently from the rest of the world.  God wants us to experience an abundant life here, while we wait for there.  God gives us everything we need to experience a Garden Walk.  We didn’t just enter the garden.  Now, we can walk together with God.

How about you?  Do you know how God has empowered you to walk with Him?  Do you participate in the divine nature?  Are you walking with God?
