Three Roles in One

God understood the predicament we were in.  God also had a plan to resolve our problem.  He would send His One.

"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. (Daniel 7:13 NIV)

This one would be a “Son of Man,” yet was clearly one who was more.  He entered the presence of God before coming here.  He was sent from God.  He was a special one.  This “Son of Man,” was the pivotal One in the plan of God.  This “Son of Man” was not the prophet Ezekiel, although God called Ezekiel by this title, because Daniel’s prophecies were about one who was still to come.  No, this “Son of Man” would be a prophet like Ezekiel, but more than a prophet.

He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed. (Daniel 7:14 NIV)
The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his. (Genesis 49:10 NIV)

This “Son of Man” would not only be a prophet.  He would be a King.  We would recognize him as a descendant of Judah.  Later on, we would recognize him as a descendant of King David, a specific person in the line of Judah.  This King would reign over every nation and people.  This King would be worshiped.  This King will reign forever.  But this “Son of Man” would be more than prophet and King.

Of David. A psalm. The LORD says to my lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in the midst of your enemies!" Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning's womb. The LORD has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." (Psalms 110:1-4 NIV)

This One would be different from any one who has come before.  He will be a prophet in the likes of Ezekiel, speaking God’s truth to us all.  He would be a king in the line of David, ruling all nations forever.  He would be a priest in the type of Melchizedek, reconciling us to God once and for all. This One was worth looking for.  This One was worth waiting for.  This is the only One worthy of everything we have to offer.

How about you?  Have you looked for the One?  Have you found the One?  Do you offer everything to the One?
