Make It Real

Moses had a God encounter.  The bush did not burn up.  When he approached the burning bush, God spoke with him.  He took off his sandals, essentially removing any easy escape from the conversation.  Then Moses listened.  God wanted to help God’s people escape from the slavery and oppression in Egypt.  This all went well until Moses was told his part of God’s plan.  Moses didn’t respond too well to this part of the conversation.  He started asking questions.  Then he started raising objections.

Moses answered, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?" (Exodus 4:1 NIV)

When we encounter God, it often goes well until the moment when God asks something of us.  Then, we struggle.  Then, we doubt whether it was really a God encounter or not.  Then, we start wondering whether it is worth changing our plans, our calendar, or our lives.  Then, we come face to face with the fact that God has a plan for our lives…and we need to decide.  Will we walk together with God or not?

We need to know that those encounters with God are real. We need to know that they were more than just a bad burrito we had for lunch.  We need to know it isn’t the trickery of a spiritual enemy or the handiwork of a physical one.  We need to walk away from the God encounter knowing it was real.  We need to know that God is real.  We need to know the encounter was real.  We need to know that the calling was real.  We need to work through whatever process we need to go through to remove all doubt…make it personal…make it real.

How about you?  When you encounter God, do you struggle with doubts after the encounter?  Do you work through the process necessary to remove all doubt?  Do you make it personal?  Do you make it real?
