But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. (Romans 8:10-11 NIV)
Even though our physical bodies break down, God's Spirit somehow brings life to our mortal bodies. In other words, our spirit and newly transformed body are not the only part of us that is changed by God's Spirit. We are not just promised a new life once we leave this life. God gives life to our mortal body as well. God's Spirit brings us a new life today. Something has changed. Something is different.
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. (Acts 17:24-25 NIV)
Every time we breathe, we should be reminded of God who gives us life, breath, and everything else. We should be reminded of our total dependence on God. We should be reminded that this dependence is a good thing. It gives us life and breath and everything else. When we walk together with God, it is a different life.
