God Still Reigns

For the choir director: A psalm of the descendants of Korah. Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the LORD Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. (Psalms 47:1-2 NLT)

I find it interesting that my daily reading plan is taking me through chapter after chapter reminding me that God is King over all the earth.  I remember a day in my own life when political contests would take me on a roller-coaster of emotions.  When the person I wanted to win would win, I was ecstatic.  When my person would lose, I would be close to depression.  Here, though, I am reminded that my King is always King so I can always celebrate.  God still reigns.

God has ascended with a mighty shout. The LORD has ascended with trumpets blaring. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King over all the earth. Praise Him with a psalm. (Psalms 47:5-7 NLT)

Now, political contests don't have the same effect on me.  I find myself looking for results but not worrying one way or another.  I find myself at peace and even celebrating no matter the outcome of the political race.  I can always celebrate because God still reigns.

God reigns above the nations, sitting on His holy throne. The rulers of the world have gathered together with the people of the God of Abraham. For all the kings of the earth belong to God. He is highly honored everywhere. (Psalms 47:8-9 NLT)

Today I will honor God in my heart, with my lips, and in my actions.  Today I will celebrate and enjoy the blessings of our King.
