Christian Crust

A psalm of David. O LORD, I give my life to You. I trust in You, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in You will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. (Psalms 25:1-3 NLT)

I guess with thanksgiving coming up, I find myself thinking about pies a lot right now.  Some of the best pies I've ever had have "layers" to them.  There's some layer of crust on the outside that makes it look beautiful and enticing.  It may taste good, too, but it's not the substantial part of the pie.  The "real pie" lies beneath the crust - where we get to the good stuff.

All too often I encounter people who work hard on the "crust" of their walk with God.  They are concerned about showing things that are beautiful and enticing.  When you get past the crust, though, where the real good stuff should be, you find out the pie isn't really very good.

Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by Your truth and teach me, for You are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in You. (Psalms 25:4-5 NLT)

We fill our "pies" with "good stuff" when we truly trust Him, put our hope in Him, and follow Him.  We listen to His Truth and put it into practice.  When we do, we find ourselves putting more and more good stuff into the "pies" of our lives.

Remember, O LORD, Your compassion and unfailing love, which You have shown from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of Your unfailing love, for You are merciful, O LORD. (Psalms 25:6-7 NLT)

The beauty of a walk with God is that He is even willing to convert the "bad stuff" we already put in our pie into "good stuff" that will be helpful and pleasing to others.  A life changed by God will be used by God for good - even the parts we messed up in the past.  The decision is ours.  Will we start putting "good stuff" in our pies and trust Him with the rest?

The LORD is good and does what is right; He shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them His way. (Psalms 25:8-9 NLT)

Start putting good stuff in your life.  Keep reading the rest of this Psalm (Psalm 25:10-22).  God is right there ready to meet with you.  Will you meet with Him?
