"If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully keep all His commands that I am giving you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God: Your towns and your fields will be blessed. Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. (Deuteronomy 28:1-6 NLT)
We go through life with a lot of priorities given to us. "We need to get a strong education and educate our children in a mathematically and scientifically advanced world. We need to make enough money to be able to afford all the things we need to keep up in the society where we live. We need to raise our children to accept all people no matter what their background, nationality, or beliefs. We need to pursue liberty and happiness for ourselves, our children, and our children's children."
"Need" is such a strong word. Here's the main priority we really need:
Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: 'Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' (Mark 12:29-30 NLT)
God never promised to bless higher education in math and science. He never promised to bless people for keeping up with their neighbors economically. He never promised to bless people for accepting other gods. He never promised to bless us for pursuing freedom or "happiness." Do you want to be blessed? Pursue God before anything else.
