A prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, through all the generations You have been our home! (Psalms 90:1 NLT)
I'm reading through the Bible using a chronological reading plan from Youversion. The layout of this part of Scripture really was elegant. Psalm 90 was inserted right after Numbers 15, where the Israelites failed to go into the promised land. They were told that they would not be allowed to go in because of their disobedience and lack of faith.
At the age of 20, men were counted as part of the census. At the age of 25, Levites could begin serving God in the Tabernacle. At 50 they were required to stop. All of the adults were just sentenced to wandering the wilderness for 40 years. They would all die. None of them would enter the promised land.
Knowing this, read Psalm 90. It makes more sense now. It's quite a song.
How will I spend my life?
For what purpose will I pour out my days?
How will you use the time you have on this earth?
Will it be better than simply wandering around waiting to die?
How does God want you to spend these days?
