A Humble Leader

While they were at Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he had married a Cushite woman. They said, "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn't He spoken through us, too?" But the LORD heard them. (Now Moses was very humble—more humble than any other person on earth.) (Numbers 12:1-3 NLT)

I don't know how else to say it.  This is the kind of leader I want to be.  No, I'm not referring to Miriam and Aaron.  This wasn't exactly their finest hour.  I'm referring to Moses.  He's described as "more humble than any other person on earth."

Humility is not about knocking yourself down.  It's about submitting to God.  You don't get too full of yourself.  You also don't back out of the thing(s) God tells you to do.  When we're humble, we take credit for our part and give God credit for His part.  Humility requires bending your will to match God's.  That's worth celebrating.  It's also provides a great example that we can walk together with God.

Moses did that well.  In fact, he did it so well that God Himself came to his defense.

And the LORD said to them, "Now listen to what I say: "If there were prophets among you, I, the LORD, would reveal Myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. But not with My servant Moses. Of all My house, he is the one I trust. I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the LORD as He is. So why were you not afraid to criticize My servant Moses?" (Numbers 12:6-8 NLT)

I pray for the humility to lead like Moses
- in a way that God can trust me to do what He says
- in a way that He will speak to me face to face, clearly, and not in riddles
- in a way where I can see the LORD as He is.

How about you?  Do you want to be a humble leader?
