Why a Blog?

I know that we don't have anything written in Jesus' own handwriting.  And, yes, I am striving to be Christ-like in my daily walk.  He is, after all, the only perfect example of walking together with God that we have.  (Adam & Eve were close, but they did have that one tree incident.)  I saw a tweet one time from Rick Warren that gave his reasoning for not blogging.  He doesn't want to fall into the trap of believing that everything he has to say is valuable or important.  I don't blame him.  If he were to blog, hundreds of thousands would read.  That's some pressure to put on someone whenever they communicate with the public.  Transparent and Unashamed is the goal, but imperfection is our reality.

Why, then, would I want to write regular blog posts?

I've struggled over this question ever since the technology has been available.  I don't consider myself a good writer.  In fact, I have some "bad boxes" about this that I continue to work through.  People aren't exactly pounding down my door to listen to what I'm thinking, either.  Like I said earlier, Jesus never wrote his thoughts down (although I still wonder what he scratched in the sand that day they brought a woman to him who was caught in the act of adultery.)  Why write, then?  More than that, why write in a way that others can read it?

This is the way I think.  This is the way I process.

For as long as I can remember, I've processed my thoughts out loud.  This is the way I am able to make sense of the world, our God, and my life.  I've always been this way.

Since blogging allows me to process what I'm thinking "out loud" without someone having to listen, it works for me.  Tweets are too short.  (I'm a talker, you know.  My thought processes seem to run for about a page at a time.)  Facebook and Google+ statuses are more reflections of the moment.  This allows me to think things through...on "paper."  Writing gives me an added benefit that talking out loud does not.  It helps me read, refine, and improve my writing skills.  (Or, at least, grow more comfortable writing.)

So...now I blog.

You are more than welcome to join me at your leisure.  "Listening in" to my thoughts can be good - entertaining even.  As you do, perhaps it can help you process your walk together with God as well.
