What am I doing? (Part 2)

Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples.  (Matthew 28:19 CEV)

Today I begin walking around my neighborhood.  I'm hoping to meet some of my neighbors.  This may sound strange coming from a pastor, but this is big for me.  I have no problems meeting people in other settings, but knocking on their door has really brought up feelings of fear.

I know that fear is not from God, so I began praying through this.  My fear is tied to old "landmines." (I'll explain the concept in later blog posts.)  I've had so many past instances where people misunderstand, misinterpret, or just plain turn against me that I'm convinced that they will do it again.  Why go meet someone when they are only going to see my flaw?

I worked through the landmine with God this morning.  Now, He has given me peace.  Why am I going out to meet my neighbors?  It's simple.  He called me to.  Why am I not afraid anymore?  "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31b NIV)  Besides, It's my job to plant seeds (His Word) and water (Pray).  It's God's job to cause the growth. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7)  Oh yeah, and those who misunderstand or simply don't like me?  I won't hold grudges (or fear), because I still love them. (1 John 4:18)  Maybe someday they will see it.

I'm going to go do some gardening now. ;)
